Franciscan Blessing

Posted by

p1010020Thanks to  a fellow Franciscan , Warren for a blessing he found and posted on his blog. This blessing is reflects our Franciscan spirituality and is timely as Franciscans celebrate the 800th anniversary of the official recognition of the movement when Pope Innocent III gave oral approval to the Rule & Life of the Friars.

May God bless you with discomfort at easy answers, half truths, and superficial relationships, so that you may live deep within your heart.

May God bless you with anger at injustice, oppression, and exploitation of people, so that you may work for justice, freedom and peace.

May God bless you with tears to shed for those who suffer from pain, rejection, starvation, and war, so that you may reach out your hand to comfort them and to turn their pain in to joy.

And may God bless you with enough foolishness to believe that you can make a difference in this world, so that you can do what others claim cannot be done.

  1. Fr. Rick,
I liked the blessing. Which prompted me to think of the Tamil protesters I saw today downtown–for those of you not in Toronto, the Tamil community has been protesting for some time, trying to shed light on the civil war in Sri Lanka and the genocide of the Tamil people. I was wondering if the Catholic Church has spoken out about the autrocities in Sri Lanka? Has the Church taken any steps to help? Just wondering.
