On Wednesday we had our last free afternoon and evening of the Sacro Convento… just to give us a bit of energy before the last day on Thurday. People are itching to go home… including me.
10 of us took a ride out to Carmel, CA to visit the tomb of Friar Junipero Serra, the “founder” of the California missions. It’s a nice basilica (with a new Casavant organ) and very interesting museum. It’s fascinating to note that he is most often portrayed in a grey habit, sometimes of the “conventual” cut.
After dealing with the fact that one friar locked his car keys in the car, and waiting for AAA to come we made our way to Carmel-by-the-Sea and went to the beach to look at the Pacific. We then moved to the quaint village for dinner at this great and reasonable French restaurant, the Patisserie Boisserie.
