Republican Genius

NEW ORLEANS β€” Roman Catholic Archbishop Alfred Hughes has denounced a lawmaker’s proposal to pay poor people to undergo sterilization as “an egregious affront to those targeted and blatantly anti-life.”

“Our lawmakers would do better to focus on policies that promote education and achievement to counteract poverty and the bigotry of low expectations, ” Hughes said in a statement Thursday.

Hughes spoke out in response to a proposal by state Rep. John Labruzzo, a Republican from suburban Metairie, to combat poverty by offering poor women and men $1,000 to undergo reproductive sterilization and vasectomies. In addition, the lawmaker said he is considering whether to propose tax incentives for college-educated people to have more children.

  1. JL might add a third proposal saying that the poor men and women should be forced to become the slaves of the college-educated people who would be too busy wining and dining and thus unable to look after their children.

How can such disastrous politicians be kept in office, I wonder. JL should be forced to resign immediately.

    Please don’t tell me he’s a Cathoilc 😦

  2. A very admirable prophetic role. I think this is what the Church needed to do more during this time although persecution most often awaits at the end. Thanks Friar Rick.

  3. I suppose the other ways to erradicate poverty-accessible and affordable health care, quality public education, job training, quality affdordable housing simply take too long and are much more costly. Social welfare is a costly business so that a social safety net is provided—I have to wonder what JL’s opinion of the whopping bail out of Corporate American(mostly white and educated) sector is. My hunch is that JL may feel differently about Corporate Welfare.
