Sunday evening the Pilgrims from Toronto arrived after a long 10 hour bus ride! Amazing. The people were filled with zeal and enthusiasm and good humour. They were greeted by the Congress Committee and the exceptional hospitality and caring of the Chateau’s staff.
After a buffet dinner for an intimate 450 people there was the official reception of the Blessed Sacrament to our hotel. Since the group had such a long journey they were unable to attend the opening mass of the Congress. Fr. Liborio Amaral, the Chair of the our Congress Committee attended on our behalf and brought back the Blessed Sacrament. Archbishop Collins of the Archdiocese of Toronto led us in prayer of adoration and Benediction followed by a procession to the Blessed Sacrament Chapel we had prepared in a room the hotel normally calls “7th Heaven”. It overlooks he majesty of St. Anne’s mountain. How appropriate for the Lord to be sheltered by his grandmother!
On that day we also remembered our Fathers who are another expression of Christ’s presence among us.
Today we are off for our first full day at the Congress. We’ve got our Congress accreditation and really great backpacks full of goodies, including a rain poncho. The are calling for rain all week. I’ll keep you informed. I’m especially looking forward to hearing Jean Vanier this morning. I can’t wait.
